1957 Fender Stratocaster with an early refin and a "7-57" neck date. The neck has the quintessential '57 profile with a V-taper that feels fantastic. Mostly original with the exception of the refin, some overspray on the neck, and a replaced nut. The pickups in this example sound really strong with a meaty low-end punch in the neck and middle positions and a smooth, harmonic-rich high-end in the bridge position. The neck is in immaculate condition and the body has wear in the expected places. A killer Strat from an iconic era in Fenders' production! Includes original hardshell case.

Refinished vintage guitars often receive a generalized perception in the aftermarket. It was once believed that losing the original finish would lead to a 50% decrease in market value. However, this estimation has proven to be unreliable, especially in today's market. The truth is that not all refinishes are equal. The age, quality, and accuracy of a refinish can significantly impact the price, sometimes by as much as five figures for certain instruments.
This particular refinish meets all the necessary criteria. Regardless of the skillful application, there is no way to surpass the authenticity of an ancient refinishing. We estimate that this refinish took place within the first few years of the guitar's life. Natural shrinking, checking, and general wear are unmistakable and cannot be replicated on a shortened timeline. The finishing style and schedule closely resemble that of Fender's, and it could easily pass as an original finish, even to the most observant vintage enthusiast. Apart from the finish, this guitar is an exceptionally original example from one of the Strat's notable years. There are only minor indications of light overspray on the neck and a replaced nut, both of which also appear to be from decades ago. An original '57 Strat in Dakota Red would command a six-figure price, and I'm confident that it wouldn't be as impressive as this one.
